Popper-Mode: 80s Vintage Fashion  In 1979, a European fashion craze called "Popper-Mode" or "Popper-Bewegung [Movement]" swept from elite high schools in Hamburg throughout West Germany and nearby nations. Similar to the British Oxford Look and American Preppy Look, Popper-Mode featured sockless ("College Schuhe") loafers, Top Siders, tennis shoes, argyle, trench coats, and Lacoste shirts.  However, this Continental Prep scene included some unique hairstyles, blue jean cuts, and clothing combinations. Hair was long, parted to one side, covering one but not both eyes, short on the sides and back. Faces and necks were clean-shaven.  Jeans by Girbaud, Guess and Levi's with balloon-leg cut (baggy at the knee, tapered narrowly at the ankle) were most popular. Leather bomber and green aviator jackets over a wool v-neck sweater/pullover, over a white, crewneck Fruit of the Loom t-shirt - was standard. Ascots and dark Kashmir wool scarves were very "in....
